About the Game

Savanna Sam is a 3D action game where you take over the controls of Sam’s trusty biplane and help him on his dangerous journey. Make sure Sam reaches his destination and can make his delivery!

The gameplay of Savanna Sam is similar to console classic Star Fox, replacing the shooting with even more barrel rolls!

  • Evade all obstacles in the colorful levels.
  • Make sure both Sam and his plane reach the end of the level without a scratch!
  • Collect all the golden rings and items popping up throughout the levels.
  • Rotate Sam to fit through any gap.
  • Use Sam’s neck to collect even hard to reach items.
  • Play through the story mode to see how Sam’s adventure unfolds.

My name is Max, I am the solo developer behind Savanna Sam. You can see many of my steps of making this game in the devlogs thread here on itch.io!

Before making this game, I have worked both as a programmer in the games industry as well as a freelance illustrator.

Savanna Sam is my attempt at combining all my passions into one project.

I really enjoyed this game. I love the artstyle, the giraffe is very fun. I love the floppy neck. Good job on the game! I would suggest adding a part to the tutorial on how to roll because I did not figure it out until after I beat all the levels. Regardless, very fun. I would also recommend adding an ability for Sam to speed up. There could be a timed component where you have to get through the level as fast as you can. Overall, I enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.

Giving Sam the ability to speed up is a fun idea! It could be an item that you need to pick up or a perk you get for collecting coins.

There is a part in the beginning of the second level that gives you a hint about how to roll, but I might have to make it clearer.
